42 U.S.C. § 16318 — Fission and fusion energy materials research program

(a) In general: Along with the President's fiscal year 2007 budget request to Congress, the Secretary had to establish a research and development program on the materials-science issues raised by advanced fission reactors and the Department's fusion energy program. (b) Administration: In running the program, the Secretary must develop: (1) a catalog of the material properties needed for the applications described in (a); (2) theoretical models for materials with those required properties; (3) benchmarks testing those models against existing data; and (4) a roadmap to guide further research and development in this area.
