The Secretary must examine vessels as needed for legal and regulatory compliance. Crew accommodations must be checked at least monthly or whenever the vessel enters a United States port for size, ventilation, cleanliness, sanitation, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
In addition to section 3307 inspections, the Secretary must examine, or have examined: (1) each vessel* subject to inspection, at proper times, to ensure compliance with law and regulations; and (2) crew accommodations on each such vessel at least once a month or when the vessel enters a United States port, to ensure that the accommodations (A) are the size required by law and regulations; (B) are properly ventilated and clean and sanitary; and (C) have the required plumbing and mechanical appliances, with those appliances in good working order.
In addition to inspections required by section 3307 of this title, the Secretary shall examine or have examined—
each vessel* subject to inspection at proper times to ensure compliance with law and regulations; and
crewmember accommodations on each vessel subject to inspection at least once a month or when the vessel enters United States ports to ensure that the accommodations are—
of the size required by law and regulations;
properly ventilated and in a clean and sanitary condition; and
equipped with proper plumbing and mechanical appliances required by law and regulations, and the appliances are in good working condition.
