The Board can decide the format for pipeline carriers' and lessors' records, including traffic and money records. Board inspectors can show credentials and inspect a carrier's land, buildings, equipment, and records. The Board also sets how long records must be kept.

(a) Form of Records. The Board can decide what form pipeline carriers and lessors must use for the records this subchapter requires, including records about moving traffic and about receiving and spending money. (b) Inspection. The Board, or an employee the Board picks, can — after showing proper identification — (1) inspect and examine a pipeline carrier's or lessor's land, buildings, and equipment; and (2) inspect and copy the records of (A) a pipeline carrier, lessor, or association, and (B) anyone who controls, is controlled by, or shares common control with a pipeline carrier, if the Board thinks the inspection matters to that person's relationship or dealings with the carrier. (c) Preservation Period. The Board can set how long pipeline carriers and lessors must keep their operating, accounting, and financial records.
