An airport operator may submit a noise exposure map showing current noncompatible uses and forecast aircraft operations. The operator must consult local agencies and submit a revised map after certain operational changes.

(a) Submission and preparation. An airport operator may submit a noise exposure map to the Secretary. It must show the noncompatible uses in each mapped area on the submission date and describe estimated aircraft operations during a forecast period at least five years in the future and how those operations will affect the map. The operator must prepare the map in consultation with public agencies and planning authorities around the airport and must follow regulations under section 47502. (b) Revised maps. (1) An operator that submitted a map must submit a revised map if an operational change would create a substantial new noncompatible use or significantly reduce noise over existing noncompatible uses, and the change is not shown on the existing-conditions or forecast map on file with FAA. (2) A revised map is required only when the change occurs during the forecast period of the applicable map or during the implementation period of the operator’s noise compatibility program.
