At least 30 days before a selection board convenes, the Secretary of the Air Force must either individually notify each eligible officer in writing of the board's convening date and the names and dates of rank of the most junior and most senior officers in the promotion zone, or issue a general written notice to the whole Space Force with that same information. (b) Communication From Officers. An officer eligible for consideration, unless excluded under section 20231(d), may send the board a written statement, arriving at least 10 days before the board convenes, pointing out anything the officer thinks is important to their case. The board must consider any timely statement. (c) Notice of Intent of Certain Officers To Serve on or Off Active Duty. A colonel or brigadier general who gets a notice under subsection (a) must tell the Secretary whether they'd prefer to serve on or off sustained duty if promoted to brigadier general or major general.
