submitted 3 years ago by Pub. L. 118-31 to r/title-10-ARMED-FORCES · 163 words · no verdicts yet
The same membership rules that apply to boards deciding on Air Force officers' careers also apply to Space Force retention boards. The Air Force Secretary may add retired Air Force officers to these boards, but only if they have enough space-related experience to understand Space Force standards.
(a) In General. Section 1187 of this title, the general rules about who can sit on a career review board, applies to boards convened under this chapter the same way it applies to boards under chapter 60.
(b) Retired Air Force Officers.
(1) Authority. When applying section 1187(b) to a board under this chapter, the Secretary of the Air Force may appoint retired Air Force officers, in addition to retired Space Force officers, to fill out the board's membership.
(2) Limitation. A retired Air Force officer* can only be appointed this way if they served long enough in a space-related Air Force career field that the Secretary decides they know enough about Space Force performance and conduct standards.
The provisions of section 1187 of this title apply to the membership of boards convened under this chapter in the same manner as to the membership of boards convened under chapter 60 of this title.
In applying subsection (b) of section 1187 of this title to a board convened under this chapter, the Secretary of the Air Force may appoint retired officers of the Air Force, in addition to retired officers of the Space Force, to complete the membership of the board.
A retired officer* of the Air Force may be appointed to a board under paragraph (1) only if the officer served in a space-related career field of the Air Force for sufficient time such that the Secretary of the Air Force determines that the retired Air Force officer has adequate knowledge concerning the standards of performance and conduct required of an officer of the Space Force.
