10 U.S.C. § 227 — Budget justification for covered military unaccompanied housing Facilities Sustainment, Restoration, and Modernization projects

This section requires the military to explain its housing-repair budget to Congress every year. (a) What must be included. When the President submits the yearly federal budget, each military department's Secretary must also give Congress's defense committees a combined budget report about Facilities Sustainment, Restoration, and Modernization projects for "covered military unaccompanied housing." That report must show two things. First, for the upcoming budget year, it must list the total funding requested for these housing projects compared with the total funding actually needed, broken down by military department. Second, it must show total spending on these projects from two years before the budget year, broken down by: which military base the spending was at; what type of facility was repaired or restored; how many of the projects were for routine sustainment or repair; and how many were for bigger restoration or modernization work. (b) Definitions. Three terms are defined by pointing to other statutes rather than defined here directly: "covered military unaccompanied housing" has the meaning given in 10 U.S.C. § 2856; "facility" and "military installation" have the meanings given in 10 U.S.C. § 2801; and "repair project" has the meaning given in 10 U.S.C. § 2811. This section does not itself spell out what those terms mean.
