10 U.S.C. § 467 — Definitions

This section defines five terms used in this chapter. (1) Function means any duty, obligation, responsibility, privilege, activity, or program. (2)(A) Imagery means a likeness or picture of any natural or manmade feature, related object, or activity, along with the location data captured at the same time — including (i) products from space-based national intelligence reconnaissance systems, and (ii) images captured by satellites, airborne platforms, unmanned aerial vehicles, or similar means. (B) This does not include handheld or secret photography taken by, or for, human intelligence agencies. (3) Imagery intelligence means the technical, geographic, and intelligence information that comes from interpreting or analyzing imagery and related materials. (4) Geospatial information means information identifying the geographic location and features of natural or built features and boundaries on or near the earth. It includes (A) data from remote sensing, mapping, and surveying technologies, and (B) mapping, charting, geomatics data, and related products and services. (5) Geospatial intelligence means using and analyzing imagery and geospatial information to describe, assess, and visually show physical features and geographically located activities on or near the earth. Geospatial intelligence is made up of imagery, imagery intelligence, and geospatial information.
