10 U.S.C. § 8042 — Headquarters, Marine Corps: general duties

(a) Headquarters, Marine Corps gives professional help to the Secretary, the Under Secretary, the Assistant Secretaries of the Navy, and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. (b) Under the Secretary's authority, direction, and control, Headquarters, Marine Corps must: (1) subject to subsections (c) and (d) of section 8014 of this title, prepare the Marine Corps for deployment and handle recruiting, organizing, supplying, equipping (including research and development), training, servicing, mobilizing, demobilizing, administering, and maintaining the Marine Corps, to help carry out any power, duty, or function of the Secretary or the Commandant; (2) investigate and report on how efficient the Marine Corps is and how ready it is to support combatant commanders; (3) write detailed instructions for carrying out approved plans, and oversee carrying out those plans and instructions; (4) coordinate the actions of Marine Corps organizations, as directed by the Secretary or the Commandant; and (5) perform any other duties the Secretary assigns that aren't already covered by law.
