10 U.S.C. § 8476 — Operation of Naval Academy dairy farm

(a) Discretion Regarding Continued Operation. (1) Subject to (2), the Secretary of the Navy may terminate or reduce the dairy or other operations at the Naval Academy dairy farm in Gambrills, Maryland. (2) Despite ending or reducing operations under (1), the real property containing the dairy farm (about 875 acres): (A) may not be declared excess to the Navy's needs, or transferred or otherwise disposed of by the Navy or any federal agency; and (B) must be maintained in its rural and agricultural nature. (b) Lease Authority. (1) Subject to (2), as far as the termination or reduction of operations at the dairy farm permits, the Secretary of the Navy may lease the real property containing the dairy farm, and any improvements and personal property on it, to whoever the Secretary considers appropriate, on whatever terms the Secretary considers appropriate. In leasing the property, the Secretary may give preference to people who will keep running dairy operations there. (2) Any lease of property at the dairy farm must require the lessee to maintain the leased property's rural and agricultural nature. (c) Lease Proceeds. All money received from a lease under (b) is kept by the Superintendent of the Naval Academy and may be used to cover expenses related to the property described in (a), including reimbursing the Naval Academy's nonappropriated fund instrumentalities. (d) Effect of Other Laws. Nothing in section 8471 of this title requires the Secretary of the Navy or the Superintendent to operate a dairy farm for the Naval Academy in Gambrills, Maryland, or anywhere else.
