submitted 7 years ago by Pub. L. 116-92 to r/title-10-ARMED-FORCES · 209 words · no verdicts yet

in plain englishAI-generated · not legal advice

Ford-class carrier construction has fixed dollar cost limits set for each ship, from CVN-78 through CVN-81. Certain spare parts and inflation-driven cost increases don't count toward those limits. The Secretary can raise a limit, but only after giving Congress 15 days' written notice and a briefing.

(a) Limitation — Total money obligated or spent from Shipbuilding and Conversion, Navy, or any other procurement account, cannot exceed these amounts for these aircraft carriers: (1) $13,224,000,000 for CVN-78; (2) $11,398,000,000 for CVN-79; (3) $12,202,000,000 for CVN-80; and (4) $12,451,000,000 for CVN-81.

(b) Exclusion of Battle and Interim Spares From Cost Limitation — The Secretary of the Navy must leave out of the (a) totals the cost of: (1) CVN-78-class battle spares; (2) interim spares; and (3) cost increases from economic inflation after December 1, 2018, that aren't already counted in the (a) amounts.

(c) Written Notice and Briefing on Change in Amount — The Secretary may raise an (a) amount, but only at least 15 days after sending Congress's defense committees written notice and giving them a briefing, both stating the amount and reason for the change and the resulting new total.
