13 U.S.C. § 212 — Refusal or neglect of employees to perform duties

This section is a single, undivided rule with no lettered subsections. It applies to an employee described in subchapter II of chapter 1 of this title — someone whose duties come from that part of the law. To be covered, the employee must have taken and signed (subscribed) the oath of office. If that employee neglects or refuses to perform the duties this title puts on them, and they don't have a justifiable cause for skipping those duties, they've violated this section. The penalty is a fine of not more than $500. The section doesn't set a minimum fine and doesn't provide for any other punishment, such as imprisonment.
