14 U.S.C. § 528 — Protecting against unmanned aircraft

For purposes of section 210G(k)(3)(C)(iv) of the Homeland Security Act of 2002, the Coast Guard’s authorized missions include: (1) Coast Guard security or protection of facilities and assets assessed as high-risk and potential targets for unlawful unmanned-aircraft activity, including (A) a facility, including one under the Commandant’s administrative control, and (B) a moored or underway vessel or an aircraft. This includes a vessel or aircraft (i) operated by the Coast Guard or assisted or escorted by it and (ii) directly involved in a Coast Guard mission concerning: (I) assisting or escorting a Defense Department vessel; (II) assisting or escorting a vessel of national-security significance, high-interest vessel, high-capacity passenger vessel, or high-value unit, as the Secretary defines those terms; (III) section 527(a) of this title; (IV) helping protect the President, Vice President, or the next officer in the presidential line of succession under the Presidential Protection Assistance Act of 1976; (V) protecting a National Special Security Event or a Special Event Assessment Rating event; (VI) United States air defense, including air sovereignty, ground-based air defense, and the National Capital Region integrated air-defense system; or (VII) search and rescue. The authorized missions also include (2) missions the Secretary directs under section 210G(k)(3)(C)(iii) of the Homeland Security Act of 2002.
