15 U.S.C. § 790c — Analysis and evaluation of energy information; establishment and maintenance by Director of professional, etc., capability; specific capabilities

(a) The Director must maintain scientific, engineering, statistical, and other technical abilities to analyze energy information in order to: (1) check the accuracy of information submitted to the Director; and (2) ensure coordination and comparability between the Office’s information and other Federal agencies’ information. (b) The Director must maintain professional and analytical abilities to independently evaluate whether the Office’s and other agencies’ energy information is adequate and complete for this chapter and for section 790a analyses. These abilities must include: (1) economics, finance, and accounting expertise; (2) evaluating mineral-fuel and nonmineral-resource reserve estimates using different methods; (3) developing and evaluating energy-flow and accounting models for production, distribution, and consumption across economic sectors and energy-industry commerce; (4) developing and evaluating short- and long-term forecast models connecting supply and consumption with suitable variables; and (5) other abilities the Director considers needed for this chapter.
