16 U.S.C. § 110d — Mount Rainier National Park Boundary Adjustment

(a) Boundary adjustment. Mount Rainier National Park's boundary is expanded to include a new area. That area is shown on a specific map called "Mount Rainier National Park, Carbon River Boundary Adjustment," numbered 105/92,002B and dated June 2003. The Secretary of the Interior must keep this map on file at the appropriate National Park Service offices. (b) Land acquisition. The Secretary of the Interior may acquire land within this new area, but only with the landowner's consent — the government cannot force a sale. The Secretary can acquire land by donation, by purchase (using either donated money or money Congress has appropriated), or by exchange. Two specific kinds of acquisition are allowed: land or land interests, plus any buildings on it, inside the boundary shown on the map — up to 800 acres total — to build camping and other recreational facilities; and land or land interests, plus any buildings on it, near Wilkeson, Washington — up to one acre total — for a facility to serve visitors traveling the Carbon and Mowich corridors. (c) Administration of acquired lands. Once the Secretary acquires this land, it becomes part of Mount Rainier National Park, and must be managed under the same laws and rules that apply to the rest of the park.
