16 U.S.C. § 430f–13 — Shiloh National Military Park boundary adjustment
submitted 7 years ago by Pub. L. 116-9 to r/title-16-CONSERVATION · 425 words · no verdicts yet
This law adds three Civil War battlefields to Shiloh National Military Park and creates Parker's Crossroads Battlefield as a separate "affiliated area." The city of Parkers Crossroads and Tennessee's historical commission jointly manage the affiliated area, with only limited Park Service help.
(a) Definitions. "Affiliated area" means Parker's Crossroads Battlefield, set up as an affiliated area of the National Park System by this section. "Park" means Shiloh National Military Park.
(b) Areas to be added to Shiloh National Military Park. (1) The Park's boundary now includes new areas shown on a 2014 map: (A) Fallen Timbers Battlefield, (B) Russell House Battlefield, and (C) Davis Bridge Battlefield. (2) The Secretary may acquire this land by donation, by purchase using donated or appropriated money, or by exchange. (3) Any land acquired this way becomes part of the Park.
(c) Establishment of affiliated area. (1) Parker's Crossroads Battlefield in Tennessee is established as an affiliated area of the National Park System. (2) The affiliated area is the land shown on a 2014 map of its proposed boundary. (3) It must be managed under this section and under the laws that generally apply to National Park System units. (4) The City of Parkers Crossroads and the Tennessee Historical Commission together are the management entity in charge of it. (5) The Secretary may give technical assistance and make cooperative agreements with that management entity to help pay for marketing, marking, interpreting, and preserving the affiliated area. (6) But nothing here lets the Secretary buy property at the affiliated area or take on full financial responsibility for running, maintaining, or managing it — that job belongs to the management entity. (7) The Secretary, working with the management entity, must create a general management plan for the affiliated area, following section 100502 of title 54. Within 3 years after funding becomes available for this section, the Secretary must send that plan to the House Natural Resources Committee and the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
