16 U.S.C. § 160g — Designation by Secretary of recreational fishing zones; consultation with appropriate State agency; continuation of seining of fish to secure eggs for propagation

(a) Recreational fishing. The Secretary must let people fish for fun on the park's land and water that are under the Secretary's jurisdiction. Fishing must follow both applicable federal law and Minnesota law. There is an exception: the Secretary can mark off "zones" where fishing is banned, or set "periods" when it isn't allowed. The Secretary can only do this for one of these reasons: public safety, administration of the park, fish and wildlife management, or public use and enjoyment. Before putting these fishing regulations into effect, the Secretary must first consult with the appropriate Minnesota state agency. The only exception is an emergency — then the Secretary does not need to consult first. (b) Egg collection at Shoepac Lake. Minnesota can keep "seining" — netting — fish at Shoepac Lake to collect eggs for breeding new fish. This must continue in accordance with a plan that both Minnesota and the Secretary find acceptable.
