16 U.S.C. § 410eee–4 — Authorization of appropriations

Congress authorizes spending whatever amount of money is necessary to carry out this subchapter, which sets up and governs the Adams National Historical Park in Quincy, Massachusetts. This is called an "authorization of appropriations" — it does not itself hand out any money. Instead, it gives Congress legal permission to include funding for the park in a later, separate spending bill. The amount is not capped or fixed by this section; it says only "such sums as may be necessary," meaning Congress may approve whatever amount it decides is needed, year by year, to run and develop the park under the other sections of this subchapter. Without this kind of authorization, Congress could not legally appropriate money for the park's operations, land purchases, or facilities described elsewhere in this subchapter.
