16 U.S.C. § 410vv — Purposes

This subchapter has five purposes: (1) to explain the history and development of conservation stewardship in America; (2) to recognize and explain the contributions and birthplace of George Perkins Marsh, an early environmentalist, author of Man and Nature, statesman, lawyer, and linguist; (3) to recognize and explain the contributions of Frederick Billings — a conservationist, reforestation and scientific farming pioneer, lawyer, philanthropist, and railroad builder — who built on the land-management ideas Marsh introduced; (4) to preserve the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller Mansion and the land around it; and (5) to recognize the important contributions of Julia Billings, Mary Billings French, Mary French Rockefeller, and Laurance Spelman Rockefeller in carrying on the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller heritage.
