This section defines the basic terms used for the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park, including what counts as the "Park," the "Canal," the "Secretary," a "State," a "local government," a "person," and a "landowner."
This section defines terms used throughout the subchapter about the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park:
(a) "Park" means the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park, as this subchapter establishes it.
(b) "Canal" means the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal itself, including its towpath.
(c) "Secretary" means the Secretary of the Interior.
(d) "State" means any state, and also includes the District of Columbia.
(e) "Local government" means any political subdivision of a state — a county, municipality, city, town, township, or a school or other special district set up under state law.
(f) "Person" means any individual, partnership, corporation, private nonprofit organization, or club.
(g) "Landowner" means any person, local government, or state that owns — or reasonably claims to own — land or land rights next to or near the park.
As used in this subchapter—
“Park” means the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park, as herein established.
“Canal” means the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, including its towpath.
“Secretary” means the Secretary of the Interior.
“State” means any State, and includes the District of Columbia.
“Local government” means any political subdivision of a State, including a county, municipality, city, town, township, or a school or other special district created pursuant to State law.
“Person” means any individual, partnership, corporation, private nonprofit organization, or club.
“Landowner” means any person, local government, or State owning, or on reasonable grounds professing to own, lands or interests in lands adjacent to or in the vicinity of the park.
