16 U.S.C. § 423a–3 — Petersburg National Battlefield boundary modification

(a) In general: The boundary of the Petersburg National Battlefield now includes the land shown on a specific map called "Petersburg National Battlefield Proposed Boundary Expansion," numbered 325/80,080. The public can view this map at National Park Service offices. (b) Acquisition of properties: (1) Authority — the Secretary of the Interior can acquire this newly included land, but only from owners who want to sell. The Secretary can do this by donation, by purchase using donated or government funds, by exchange, or by transfer. (2) Omitted — the statute text does not include content for this paragraph. (c) Administration: Once the Secretary acquires any of this land, it becomes part of the Petersburg National Battlefield and must be managed under the normal laws and regulations that apply to the battlefield. (d) Administrative jurisdiction transfer: (1) In general — this subsection swaps administrative control of two small parcels, shown on a separate map called "Petersburg National Battlefield Proposed Transfer of Administrative Jurisdiction," numbered 325/80,801A. About 1.170 acres moves from the Secretary of the Interior to the Secretary of the Army, to become part of Fort Lee Military Reservation. In exchange, about 1.171 acres moves from the Secretary of the Army to the Secretary of the Interior, to become part of the battlefield. (2) Map — both parcels are shown on that map, dated May 2011/March 2016. (3) Conditions of transfer — (A) neither side pays anything for this swap; (B) the parcel going to the Army is removed from the battlefield's boundary, while the parcel going to the Interior Department is added to the battlefield's boundary and must be managed under the normal laws and regulations that apply to it.
