16 U.S.C. § 559 — Arrests by employees of Forest Service for violations of laws and regulations

Forest Service employees may arrest people who violate laws or regulations concerning national forests. An arrested person must be taken to the nearest United States magistrate judge with jurisdiction, and officers may still arrest someone caught in the act without a warrant or other process.
Every United States Forest Service employee may arrest a person for violating laws or regulations relating to national forests. The employee must take the arrested person before the nearest United States magistrate judge who has jurisdiction over the forest, for trial. When a competent person gives sworn information, a United States magistrate judge in the proper jurisdiction must issue process to arrest a person charged with violating those laws or regulations. This section does not prevent a United States officer from arresting, without process, a person caught in the act of violating those laws or regulations.
All persons employed in the Forest Service of the United States shall have authority to make arrests for the violation of the laws and regulations relating to the national forests, and any person so arrested shall be taken before the nearest United States magistrate judge, within whose jurisdiction the forest is located, for trial; and upon sworn information by any competent person any United States magistrate judge in the proper jurisdiction shall issue process for the arrest of any person charged with the violation of said laws and regulations; but nothing herein contained shall be construed as preventing the arrest by any officer of the United States, without process, of any person taken in the act of violating said laws and regulations.
