This section defines "Federal land" as National Forest System land and Bureau of Land Management public land. It also defines which Secretary — Agriculture or the Interior — is responsible for each type.
In this subchapter:
The term “Federal land” means—
any land in the National Forest System (as defined in section 1609(a) of this title) that is administered by the Secretary of Agriculture, acting through the Chief of the Forest Service; and
public lands (as defined in section 1702 of title 43), the surface of which is administered by the Secretary, acting through the Director of the Bureau of Land Management.
The term “Secretary concerned” means—
the Secretary of Agriculture, with respect to land described in paragraph (1)(A); and
the Secretary, with respect to land described in paragraph (1)(B).
