16 U.S.C. § 7911 — Definitions

This section defines Federal land and the Secretary concerned for the subchapter. Federal land includes specified National Forest System land and Bureau of Land Management public land.
In this subchapter: (1) “Federal land” means (A) National Forest System land, as section 1609(a) defines it, administered by the Agriculture Secretary through the Forest Service Chief, and (B) public land, as section 1702 of title 43 defines it, whose surface is administered by the Secretary through the Bureau of Land Management Director. (2) “Secretary concerned” means (A) the Agriculture Secretary for land under (1)(A) and (B) the Secretary for land under (1)(B).
In this subchapter:
The term “Federal land” means—
any land in the National Forest System (as defined in section 1609(a) of this title) that is administered by the Secretary of Agriculture, acting through the Chief of the Forest Service; and
public lands (as defined in section 1702 of title 43), the surface of which is administered by the Secretary, acting through the Director of the Bureau of Land Management.
The term “Secretary concerned” means—
the Secretary of Agriculture, with respect to land described in paragraph (1)(A); and
the Secretary, with respect to land described in paragraph (1)(B).
