20 U.S.C. § 80q–1 — National Museum of the American Indian

(a) Establishment: The law creates, within the Smithsonian Institution, a living memorial to Native Americans and their traditions, called the "National Museum of the American Indian." (b) Purposes: The National Museum exists to: (1) advance the study of Native Americans, including their language, literature, history, art, anthropology, and life; (2) collect, preserve, and exhibit Native American objects that have artistic, historical, literary, anthropological, or scientific value; (3) run research and study programs about Native Americans; and (4) carry out purposes (1) through (3) in the District of Columbia, the State of New York, and other appropriate places.
