22 U.S.C. § 2719d — Language incentive pay for civil service employees

The Secretary may provide special monetary incentives to civil service employees to acquire or retain proficiency in foreign languages. The employees must serve in domestic positions requiring critical language skills. Those positions must be located in the 50 States, the District of Columbia, or non-foreign areas: the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and other United States territories and possessions. The amounts of these incentives should be similar to the language incentive pay provided to Foreign Service members under section 4024(b)(3) of this title, as amended by section 5206.
