22 U.S.C. § 285aAppointment of Governor, Alternate Governor and Director; compensation

submitted 60 years ago by Pub. L. 89-369 to r/title-22-FOREIGN-RELATIONS-AND-INTERCOURSE · 142 words · no verdicts yet

The President appoints the Bank's Governor, Alternate Governor, and Director. The Senate must confirm the Director, and usually the Governor and Alternate too. Governors get no U.S. salary, but the Director may receive pay equal to a diplomatic chief of mission.

(a) The President appoints people to three jobs at the Bank. The President appoints a Governor and an Alternate Governor. The Senate must approve this appointment, unless the person already holds another job that required Senate approval — in that case, no separate approval is needed. The President also appoints a Director of the Bank, and the Senate must approve that appointment too. (b) The Governor and the Alternate Governor do not get a salary or any other compensation from the United States for this work. The Director is different: the President can decide to give the Director pay, allowances, and other benefits. Combined with whatever the Director receives from the Bank itself, this total must equal what a "chief of mission" — a senior U.S. diplomat leading an embassy — gets under the Foreign Service Act of 1980.
