22 U.S.C. § 7710 — Suspension and termination of assistance

(a) Suspension and termination of assistance — After consulting with the Board, the Chief Executive Officer may suspend or end some or all of a country's or entity's assistance under section 7704 if the Chief Executive Officer determines that: (1) the country or entity is engaged in activities contrary to U.S. national security interests; (2) the country or entity has engaged in a pattern of actions inconsistent with the criteria used to judge its eligibility; or (3) the country or entity has failed to live up to its responsibilities under the Compact. (b) Reinstatement — The Chief Executive Officer may reinstate a country's or entity's assistance under section 7704 only after determining that the country or entity has shown real commitment to fixing every condition that led to the suspension or termination. (c) Congressional notification — Within 3 days of the date the Chief Executive Officer suspends, terminates, or reinstates assistance under subsection (a) or (b) for a country or entity, the Chief Executive Officer must send the appropriate congressional committees a report containing that determination. (d) Rule of construction — The authority to suspend or terminate assistance under this section includes the authority to suspend or terminate obligations and sub-obligations of that assistance.
