Congress praised the State Department for creating country-specific democracy strategies. The Secretary must expand these strategies to all nondemocratic and transitioning countries and keep Congress updated. Parts (b) through (d) of this section have been removed or repealed.
(a) Expansion of country-specific strategies to promote democracy: (1) Congress commends the Secretary* of State for the Department's ongoing work creating strategies aimed at specific countries to promote democracy there. (2) The Secretary must expand this work so that every nondemocratic country* and every democratic transition country* has such a strategy. (3) As these strategies are developed, the Secretary must keep the relevant congressional committees fully and currently informed.
(b) to (d): These subsections have been omitted or repealed. This section notes that they no longer contain active law.
Congress commends the Secretary* for the ongoing work by the Department* to develop country-specific strategies for promoting democracy.
The Secretary shall expand the development of such strategies to all nondemocratic countries and democratic transition countries.
The Secretary shall keep the appropriate congressional committees* fully and currently informed as such strategies are developed.
