22 U.S.C. § 8222 — Translation of human rights reports

(a) In general: The Secretary must keep expanding timely translation of the relevant parts of several reports: the Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, the Annual Report on International Religious Freedom, the Trafficking in Persons Report, and any separate report on democracy and human rights policy required by section 665(c) of the Foreign Relations Authorization Act, Fiscal Year 2003. These should be translated into the main languages of as many countries as possible, with special focus on nondemocratic countries, democratic transition countries, and countries where extrajudicial killings, torture, or other serious human rights violations have happened. (b) Report: (1) Requirement — By April 1, 2008, and every year after that through 2010, the Secretary had to send Congress a report describing what translations were made of the reports named in subsection (a) during the previous year. This includes which reports were translated into which languages and which countries received them, whether by posting online or some other way. (2) Form — This report could be folded into the separate report on democracy and human rights policy required under section 665(c), instead of being a standalone document.
