22 U.S.C. § 8243 — Personnel policies at the Department of State

This section is one undivided provision with a numbered list. Beyond the awards and incentives already in place, the Secretary should increase incentives for Foreign Service members and other Department employees who take assignments related to promoting democracy and protecting human rights. This includes three suggested incentives. (1) Giving performance pay under section 3965 of this title to those who carry out such an assignment in an outstanding manner. (2) Treating such an assignment as a reason to consider someone for promotion into the Senior Foreign Service. (3) Giving Foreign Service Awards under section 4013 of this title to those who provide distinguished or meritorious service in promoting democracy or protecting human rights.
