22 U.S.C. § 8807 — Impositions of sanctions with respect to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting

(a) Findings: Congress found (1) the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting contributed to violating people's human rights by broadcasting forced televised confessions and show trials, and (2) in March 2012, the European Council imposed sanctions on the broadcaster's president, Ezzatollah Zargami, for broadcasting forced confessions of detainees and a series of "show trials" in August 2009 and December 2011 that clearly violated international law on the right to a fair trial and due process. (b) Imposition of sanctions: (1) After January 2, 2013, the President must (A) impose the sanctions described in section 8514(c) of this title on the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting and its president, Ezzatollah Zargami, and (B) include both of them on the Treasury's list of specially designated nationals and blocked persons. (2) This requirement does not include authority to sanction the importation of goods. (3) Sections 8514(d) and 8551(b) of this title apply to sanctions imposed under (1)(A) to the same extent those sections apply to sanctions imposed under section 8514(a) of this title.
