24 U.S.C. § 423 — Preservation of historic buildings and grounds at the Armed Forces Retirement Home—Washington

(a) Historic nature of facility
Congress made three findings here. First, four buildings on six acres of the Armed Forces Retirement Home^*—Washington are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which the Secretary of the Interior maintains. Second, the Retirement Home's trust fund^* — made up mostly of pay deductions from service members — is not enough to both run the home for its residents and properly maintain these historic buildings and grounds. Third, other sources of money are available to help pay for maintaining, repairing, and preserving them.

(b) Authority to accept assistance
The Chief Operating Officer and the Administrator of the Armed Forces Retirement Home—Washington can apply for a direct grant from the Secretary of the Interior. This grant comes under section 302904 of title 54. It can only be used to maintain, repair, and preserve the historic buildings and grounds listed on the National Register.

(c) Requirements and limitations
Any grant received under subsection (b) goes into the Retirement Home's Trust Fund. But it must be kept separate from the rest of the Fund's money. It can only be spent for the purpose described in subsection (b).
