25 U.S.C. § 2015 — Annual report; audits

(a) Annual reports. Each year, the Secretary must send each appropriate congressional committee, all Bureau-funded schools, and the tribal governing bodies of those schools a detailed report on education in the Bureau and problems in Indian education during the covered period. The report must include: (1) suggestions for improving the Bureau education system and increasing tribal or local Indian control of it; and (2) information about tribally controlled community colleges. (b) Budget request. The annual budget request for the Bureau’s education programs, submitted as part of the President’s next annual budget request under section 1105 of title 31, must include the plans required by sections 2001(c), 2002(c), and 2004(c) of this title. (c) Financial and compliance audits. The Interior Department Inspector General must establish a system that ensures each Bureau-operated school receives a financial and compliance audit at least once every three years. The audit must be based on how well the school complied with its local financial plan under section 2010 of this title. (d) Administrative evaluation of schools. At least once every three to five years, the Director must conduct a complete evaluation of Bureau-operated schools. This evaluation is in addition to any other review or evaluation required by federal law.
