28 U.S.C. § 1877 — Protection of jurors

(a) Subject to this section and subchapter 1 of chapter 81 of title 5 of the United States Code, that subchapter applies to a Federal grand or petit juror. However, the juror does not become entitled to disability compensation payments until the day after the juror's service ends.

(b) When applying this section to a juror covered by it—
(1) the juror is considered to receive monthly pay at the minimum rate for grade GS–2 of the General Schedule, unless the juror's actual pay as a Government employee while serving on court leave is higher. If it is higher, monthly pay is determined under section 8114 of title 5 of the United States Code; and
(2) a juror's performance of duty includes time when the juror is—
(A) attending court under a summons;
(B) deliberating;
(C) sequestered by order of a judge; or
(D) at a site, by order of the court, for the taking of a view.

This section does not define the terms "General Schedule," "court leave," or "taking of a view."
