The Supreme Court may appoint a clerk and deputy clerks and set their pay. The section addresses removal, assistants and messengers, and the clerk’s duty to pay collected money into the Treasury and report it to the Court each year.
(a) The Supreme Court may appoint a clerk and one or more deputy clerks and set their pay. The Court may remove the clerk. The clerk may remove a deputy clerk with the Court’s or the Chief Justice’s approval. (b) Repealed. (c) With the Chief Justice’s approval, the clerk may appoint needed assistants and messengers and set their pay. (d) The clerk must pay all collected fees, costs, and other money into the Treasury and must make an annual return of that money to the Court under the Court’s regulations.
The Supreme Court may appoint and fix the compensation of a clerk and one or more deputy clerks. The clerk shall be subject to removal by the Court. Deputy clerks shall be subject to removal by the clerk with the approval of the Court or the Chief Justice of the United States*.

The clerk shall pay into the Treasury all fees, costs, and other moneys collected by him. He shall make annual returns thereof to the Court under regulations prescribed by it.
