28 U.S.C. § 672 — Marshal

(a) The Supreme Court may appoint a marshal, remove the marshal, and set the marshal’s pay. (b) With the Chief Justice’s approval, the marshal may appoint needed assistants, other employees who attend the Court, and needed custodial employees, and set their pay. (c) The marshal must: (1) attend the Court’s sessions; (2) serve and carry out every process and order issued by the Court or one of its members; (3) take charge of United States property used by the Court or its members; (4) pay money appropriated for work on the Supreme Court building and grounds under the Architect of the Capitol, using vouchers certified by the Architect; (5) pay money appropriated to buy, repair, bind, and rebind books, pamphlets, periodicals, and other publications, using vouchers certified by the Court’s librarian; (6) pay the Chief Justice’s, associate justices’, officers’, and employees’ salaries and distribute other appropriated money as the Chief Justice directs; (7) pay, using vouchers certified by the clerk, the costs of printing briefs and attorneys’ travel for people whose requests to proceed without paying fees in the Supreme Court were approved and for whom the Supreme Court appointed counsel; and (8) oversee the Supreme Court Police.
