This section doesn't change the filing rules under the Federal Land Policy and Management Act; those rules still apply alongside the new fees. The Secretary of the Interior must adjust these fees for inflation every five years, or sooner if reasonable, and must notify claimants of any change by July 1. A fee adjustment starts applying in the first full assessment year after it's made.

(a) Federal Land Policy and Management Act requirements Nothing in sections 28f to 28k of this title changes or modifies the filing requirements of section 314(b) and section 314(c) of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976. Those requirements remain in effect for claims, and mill or tunnel sites, for which fees must be paid under this section. (b) The text notes this subsection is omitted. (c) Fee adjustments (1) The Secretary of the Interior must adjust the fees required by sections 28f to 28k of this title to reflect changes in the Consumer Price Index, every five years after August 10, 1993, or more frequently if the Secretary determines an adjustment is reasonable. (2) The Secretary must give claimants notice of any adjustment no later than July 1 of the year the adjustment is made. (3) A fee adjustment begins to apply in the first assessment year that begins after the adjustment is made.
