30 U.S.C. § 48 — Lands in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota; sale and disposal as public lands

This section carves out an exception for mineral lands in three states. Except as chapter 3A of this title otherwise provides, a specific list of statutes — sections 21, 22 to 24, 26 to 28, 29, 30, 33 to 47, 51, and 52 of this title, plus section 661 of title 43 — does not apply to mineral lands in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Those lands are instead declared free and open to exploration and purchase, following legal subdivisions, the same way they were before May 10, 1872. Any bona fide entries made on those lands in those states since May 10, 1872, may still be patented (formally granted), without needing to follow the excluded sections. These lands must be offered for public sale the same way, and at the same minimum price, as other public lands.
