The Secretary of the Interior must establish and maintain a private-industry exploration program for designated domestic minerals, excluding organic fuels. The Secretary may provide Federal financial assistance on a participating basis for that exploration.
To find additional domestic mineral reserves, the Secretary of the Interior is authorized and directed to establish and maintain a program for private-industry exploration* within the United States, its Territories, and possessions. The program covers minerals the Secretary designates from time to time, but not organic fuels. For that purpose, the Secretary may provide Federal financial assistance on a participating basis.
The Secretary of the Interior is hereby authorized and directed, in order to provide for discovery of additional domestic mineral reserves, to establish and maintain a program for exploration* by private industry within the United States, its Territories and possessions for such minerals, excluding organic fuels, as he shall from time to time designate, and to provide Federal financial assistance on a participating basis for that purpose.
