30 U.S.C. § 74 — Number of coal land entries; other entries upon noncompliance with conditions

This section limits how many times someone can use the coal-land entry laws in sections 71 to 73 of this title. - Those sections allow only one land entry per person, or per association of persons. Anyone who has already taken the benefit of those sections — whether as an individual or as part of any association — cannot enter or hold any other land under these provisions. - The same limit applies to associations: no member of an association that has already used these sections can enter or hold other land under them, either alone or through a different association. - People claiming coal land under section 72 must prove they qualify and pay for the land within one year of the deadline set for filing their claim. - If a claimant fails to file the proper notice, or fails to pay for the land within that one-year period, the land becomes available again — any other qualified applicant may then enter and claim it.
