The United States Mint is part of the Treasury Department. Its head, the Director, is appointed by the President with Senate approval for a 5-year term. The President can remove the Director but must explain why to the Senate. The Director carries out duties the Treasury Secretary assigns.
(a) The United States Mint is an agency inside the Department of the Treasury.
(b)(1) The Mint's head is the Director of the Mint. The President appoints the Director, with the advice and consent of the Senate, for a 5-year term. The President can remove the Director from office; on removal, the President must send the Senate a message giving the reasons for the removal. (2) The Director must carry out the duties and powers that the Secretary of the Treasury assigns.
The United States Mint is a bureau in the Department of the Treasury.
