Territory applies throughout this title

the term “Territory” includes Guam and the Virgin Islands. (2) “Armed forces” means the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. (3) “National Guard” means the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. (4) “Army National Guard” means that part of the organized militia of the several States and Territories, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia, active and inactive, that— (A) is a land force; (B) is trained, and has its officers appointed, under the sixteenth clause of section 8, article I, of the Constitution; (C) is organized, armed, and equipped wholly or partly at Federal expense; and (D) is federally recognized.

Governor of a State applies in that section

The term “Governor of a State” means, in the case of the District of Columbia, the Commanding General of the National Guard of the District of Columbia.;

State applies in that section

The term “State” means each of the several States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory or possession of the United States.

Active Guard and Reserve duty applies in that section

The term “Active Guard and Reserve duty” has the meaning given such term in section 101 of title 10 .;

State applies in that section

The term “State” has the meaning given such term in section 901 of this title .

Program applies in that section

The term “Program” means the National Guard Youth Challenge Program carried out pursuant to this section. (m) Regulations .— The Secretary of Defense shall prescribe regulations to carry out the Program. The regulations shall address at a minimum the following: (1) The terms to be included in the Program agreements required by subsection (c). (2) The qualifications for persons to participate in the Program, as required by subsection (e). (3) The benefits authorized for Program participants, as required by subsection (f). (4) The status of National Guard personnel assigned to duty in support of the Program under subsection (g).

school dropout applies in that section

The term “school dropout” means an individual who is no longer attending any school and who has not received a secondary school diploma or a certificate from a program of equivalency for such a diploma.;

The term “State” includes the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the territories, and the District of Columbia.;

qualified individual or entity applies in that section

the term “qualified individual or entity” means— (A) any individual who possesses a requisite security clearance for handling classified remote sensing data for the purpose of wildfire detection and monitoring; or (B) any corporation, firm, partnership, company, nonprofit, Federal agency or sub-agency, or State or local government, with contractors or employees who possess a requisite security clearance for handling such data.

military pay status applies in that section

The term “military pay status” means a period of service where the amount of pay payable to a technician for that service is based on rates of military pay provided for under title 37. (2) The term “fitness for duty in the reserve components” refers only to military-unique service requirements that attend to military service generally, including service in the reserve components or service on active duty.

homeland defense activity applies throughout its chapter

The term “homeland defense activity” means an activity undertaken for the military protection of the territory or domestic population of the United States, or of infrastructure or other assets of the United States determined by the Secretary of Defense as being critical to national security, from a threat or aggression against the United States.;
