34 U.S.C. § 12571 — Definitions

In this part—

“Director” means the Director of the Office of the Police Corps and Law Enforcement Education appointed under 34 U.S.C. § 12553. This section does not define “Office of the Police Corps and Law Enforcement Education.”

“Educational expenses” means expenses directly attributable to—
(A) a course of education leading to an associate degree;
(B) a course of education leading to a baccalaureate degree; or
(C) a course of graduate study after a baccalaureate degree is awarded. These expenses include tuition, fees, books, supplies, and related expenses.

“Institution of higher education” has the meaning stated in the first sentence of 20 U.S.C. § 1001. This section does not define that term.

“Law enforcement position” means employment as an officer in a State or local police force, or in a correctional institution.

“State” means a State of the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands of the United States, American Samoa, Guam, or the Northern Mariana Islands.

This section does not define “allotment.”
