Each year by July 1, the Attorney General must report to Congress on sex offender registration enforcement. The report covers U.S. Marshals' efforts, prosecutions, state compliance, funding decisions, and any compliance-deadline extensions.
Every year, no later than July 1, the Attorney General must send Congress a report. The report must describe:
(1) How the Department of Justice used the U.S. Marshals Service to help find and arrest sex offenders who failed to register, as this chapter allows.
(2) How the government used section 2250 of title 18 to punish people who failed to register.
(3) A detailed look at how well each jurisdiction follows the registration rules in subchapter I of this chapter.
(4) A detailed description of the Justice Department's work to ensure compliance, including any funding cuts, and the reasons behind any decision to cut or not cut funding under section 20927 of this title.
(5) Which jurisdictions got extensions to comply with subchapter I's rules, which were denied, and the reasons for each decision.
Not later than July 1 of each year, the Attorney General shall submit a report to Congress describing—
the use by the Department of Justice of the United States Marshals Service to assist jurisdictions in locating and apprehending sex offenders who fail to comply with sex offender registration requirements, as authorized by this chapter;
the use of section 2250 of title 18 to punish offenders for failure to register;
a detailed explanation of each jurisdiction’s compliance with subchapter I of this chapter;
a detailed description of Justice Department efforts to ensure compliance and any funding reductions, the basis for any decision to reduce funding or not to reduce funding under section 20927 of this title; and
the denial or grant of any extensions to comply with subchapter I of this chapter, and the reasons for such denial or grant.
