34 U.S.C. § 21742 — Interstate initiatives

(a) Interstate agreements and compacts Congress gives its consent to allow any two or more states — acting through their state agencies that oversee adult protective services — to make agreements or compacts. These let states cooperate and help each other (1) promote elders' safety and well-being, and (2) enforce their own laws and policies that support that safety and well-being. (b) Recommendations on interstate communication The Executive Director of the State Justice Institute must consult with state or local adult protective services, aging, social, and human services and law enforcement agencies; nationally recognized nonprofit associations with expertise in sharing data among criminal justice agencies and familiarity with elder abuse cases; and the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Based on that, the Director must send Congress proposed legislation to make it easier for states to form these interstate agreements and compacts.
