The Attorney General must include victim age and the victim's relationship to the offender in crime reports. This applies to murder, assault, rape, sexual offenses, and crimes against children. The Bureau of Justice Statistics must also study how much domestic violence occurs in America.
(a) Family violence reporting. Using the authority in section 534 of title 28, the Attorney General must require uniform crime reports to show (1) the victim's age, and (2) the victim's relationship to the offender. This applies to murder, aggravated assault, simple assault, rape, sexual offenses, and crimes against children.
(b) National Crime Survey. The Director of the Bureau of Justice Statistics must use the annual National Crime Survey to collect and publish data that better measures how much domestic violence happens in America. This should focus especially on physical and sexual abuse of children and the elderly.
(c) Funding. Congress authorized whatever money was needed for fiscal years 1989 through 1992 to carry out this section.
Under the authority of section 534 of title 28, the Attorney General shall require, and include in uniform crime reports, data that indicate—
the age of the victim; and
the relationship of the victim to the offender, for crimes of murder, aggravated assault, simple assault, rape, sexual offenses, and offenses against children.
The Director of the Bureau of Justice Statistics, through the annual National Crime Survey, shall collect and publish data that more accurately measures the extent of domestic violence in America, especially the physical and sexual abuse of children and the elderly.
There are authorized to be appropriated in fiscal years 1989, 1990, 1991, and 1992, such sums as are necessary to carry out the purposes of this section.
