36 U.S.C. § 113 — Law Day, U.S.A.

(a) Designation: May 1 is Law Day, U.S.A. (b) Purpose: Law Day, U.S.A., is a special day of celebration for the American people (1) to appreciate their liberties, reaffirm their loyalty to the United States, and rededicate themselves to equality and justice under law with each other and other countries; and (2) to build respect for the law, which the text calls vital to the democratic way of life. (c) Proclamation: The President is requested to issue a proclamation (1) calling on public officials to fly the U.S. flag on government buildings on Law Day, U.S.A.; and (2) inviting Americans to observe the day with ceremonies and other appropriate activities, through public and private organizations and in schools and other suitable places.
