This chapter does not override existing legal authority or responsibility. It does not preempt or affect State water law or interstate water compacts, and the Secretary must follow applicable State water laws.
Nothing in this chapter supersedes or limits any existing authority provided, or responsibility conferred, by any provision of law.
Nothing in this chapter preempts or affects any—
State water law; or
interstate compact governing water.
The Secretary* shall comply with applicable State water laws in carrying out this chapter.
