42 U.S.C. § 13292 — Proposals

(a) Solicitation: Within 1 year after October 24, 1992, the Secretary must ask non-federal persons, including fleet operators, for proposals for projects under this part. Within 240 days after asking for proposals, the Secretary must pick the winners. (b) Criteria: (1) The Secretary can give financial assistance to no more than 10 projects under this part, unless the Secretary decides the available funds otherwise wouldn't get used. (2) As much as practical, the selected proposals should represent geographically and climatically diverse regions of the country. (3) Total federal financial assistance for any one project under this part cannot exceed $4,000,000. (c) Projects: The infrastructure and support systems projects picked under this part can address: (1) the ability to service electric motor vehicles and their associated equipment; (2) installing charging facilities; (3) rates and cost recovery for electric utilities that invest in infrastructure capital spending; (4) developing safety and health procedures and guidelines for battery charging, watering, and emissions; (5) running information-sharing programs; and (6) any other subject the Secretary thinks is needed to address the infrastructure and support systems required to develop and use energy storage technology, including advanced batteries, and to demonstrate electric motor vehicles.
