42 U.S.C. § 15874 — Intermountain West Geothermal Consortium

(a) Participation authorized. The Secretary, acting through the Idaho National Laboratory, may join the consortium described below to work on science and science-policy questions around discovering and using more geothermal energy, including geothermal resources on public lands. (b) Members. The consortium (1) is called the "Intermountain West Geothermal Consortium"; (2) is a regional group of institutions and government agencies focused on building collaboration among Idaho universities, other regional universities, state agencies, and the Idaho National Laboratory; (3) includes Boise State University, the University of Idaho (including its Idaho Water Resources Research Institute), the Oregon Institute of Technology, the Desert Research Institute together with the University and Community College System of Nevada, and the Energy and Geoscience Institute at the University of Utah; (4) is hosted and managed by Boise State University; and (5) has a director appointed by Boise State University, plus an associate director appointed by each participating institution. (c) Financial assistance. Subject to available appropriations, the Secretary, acting through the Idaho National Laboratory, will give Boise State University financial assistance, to be spent under contracts with the consortium's members, to carry out the consortium's work.
